Gladiator Movie is a website dedicated to the 2000 film, and possibly future expansion into information related to Gladiator Movies. The 2000 film, Gladiator, stars Russell Crowe as General Maximus who is fighting the Barbarians on the frontlines of Rome’s expansion. The Film had a notoriously difficult production period related to creative conflicts between the various departments. Regardless of the strife during production, the film has been well received and is attributed with reviving the Sand and Sandal epics.

Russell Crowe stars as General Maximus, who is loyal to the aging Emperor of Rome. The king’s son, Commodus, desires power and therefore assassinates his father and banishes Maximus to the edges of the Roman Empire. There, Maximus rises through the ranks as a Gladiator, winning the hearts of the Roman people and eventually securing his revenge against Commdus for his betrayal.

Much has been written about the troubled production period of the film that included almost daily rewrites to meet the demands of the director and star. It is well known that actor Russell Crowe would storm off set if the script was not revised to meet his opinion and this constant struggle made many think the film would be a failure. The original writer came in to manage this re-write process and helped keep the film on track as he fielded all the revisions needed to satisfy everyone involved. Much of the success of Gladiator can be attributed to the original screenwriter who kept this beast on the rails during production.

Once the film was released, the public accepted the movie and it became an instant classic. The film went on to win 5 Oscars in 2000 including best Picture.
